About us
In the Bible, Elim is an oasis where the Israelites stopped during their Exodus from Egypt. It is a place of plenty representing the natural blessings of God.

Our History
Elim Community Church in Hawick is part of the Elim Pentecostal Church’s of Great Britain and Ireland a growing christian movement of more than 550 Christian congregations in the UK and Ireland.
Elim is part of the Evangelical Alliance and Church’s together. Elim was founded in 1915 by George Jeffreys, a young Christian from Maesteg in South Wales. Jeffreys and a group of friends, known as the Elim Evangelistic Band, preached, started churches and witnessed a move of God that was characterised by miraculous healings and an explosion in the number of people becoming Christians.
In a world that can feel like a desert, our 21st-century churches seek to be a place of spiritual resource within their communities. The founders wanted the name of their new movement to express their vision and values, and so chose “Elim”, the name of an oasis in the Bible that the people of Israel discovered as they wandered through the desert. It provided shade and refreshment to all who encountered it.
Our Mission
As part of God’s family, we at Elim Community Church are intentional in revealing the love of God in word and action and encourage people from all walks of life to discover life in Jesus as Saviour and live out the authentic love of God in the community.
We seek to reach people in Hawick and the Scottish Borders with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, develop in discipleship and multiply through groups as a regional Pentecostal church.
We have a heart for expanding our fellowship with people across the Scottish Borders, Hawick and our local community, which is the Burnfoot estate and seek to show the love of God in word and action.
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Mark 16:15
